For years, Valka lived in isolation within this sanctuary after being taken by Cloudjumper during a raid and choosing to stay away, not formally exiled by her tribe. She dedicated her life to studying and protecting the creatures she loved, unaware that Hiccup was searching for her. When they reunited, it became clear that this location held a special significance: dragons from all over the world migrated here because they were drawn to the Bewilderbeast, an Alpha dragon. Toothless became the new Alpha by defeating the previous Bewilderbeast in combat, not through a bond. In the final chapter of the saga, following the destruction of Berk by Grimmel’s forces, Hiccup led the remaining villagers to a different location—New Berk—not the Dragon Sanctuary. The Sanctuary itself remained a wild refuge, symbolizing the end of an era of conflict and the beginning of a shared future, proving that nature and civilization can thrive together when mutual respect is established. Valka strictly enforces a rule that no weapons or dragon hunting tools are allowed inside the Sanctuary.
